Black and Red headed Lady Gouldian

by Sherri

This Lady Gouldian is coloring out from its first molt and has ended up with a black face while the top of its head is red. Have you ever seen a Lady Gouldian colored this way?

Hi Sherri,

No I haven't. I think sometimes mutations even mutate further. I have seen photos of very unfortunate results in which that has happened. I am glad that your bird is still beautiful. Thanks for sending your photo. Jeanie

black /red head mutation

You don't think its a female with very heavy black markings on the head? Just wondering.

Hi Annie,
Yes, as to the sex. I agree with you. From what I can see I think it would be called a red head female with heavy black markings. My answer was limited to addressing the cause of such lage black areas.
