Breeding Gouldians

by Linda Holmes
(Howell Mi.)

I have 3 yellow Gouldians one is singing so I believe this is a male and the other 2 female, also have a female Black head lilac breast.... Will the male mate with each of the females or pick just one? He sings constantly but not exactly to the other birds.

Hi Linda,

It has been my experience that a male will take just one partner or mate each breeding season. Both parents work together to raise their chicks. Keep watching your birds and I bet you will see which female your male will choose for his partner.

If its a canary yes he can, but Gouldians no, they are sophisticated and sensitive. Its better to put only separate with him, then check..both in same cage will delay breeding.
Good luck
