can you get yellow backs out of green backs in babies

I'm getting green back goulian finches and want to know if the babies come out different

Tammy,

My apologies for the delay in responding.
When one of my granddaughters is sick I get overwhelmed.

That is possible. It all depends on the parent birds genetic history. There are dominant genes for feather color as well as recessive genes. Think of it as if you were thinking about the color of humans' eyes. Brown eyes are dominant and blue are recessive. Each baby gets one gene for eye or feather color from each parent. If your parent birds both carry recessive genes for having a yellow back, (recessive to the dominant gene for green backs),it is possible that they will produce yellow back chicks.

Best Wishes, Jeanie
