death of female
I bought a pair of black head gouldians who have looked beautiful and healthy for months. The female began spending a lot of time in her nest, I figured she was ready to lay her first clutch. Then I found her in the nest dead.
Very sad, but not unheard of with Gouldians. I can only guess at the problem and I suspect egg binding, but there is no way to know for certain what happened to your hen. If the pair were active, looking good and eating well, rest assured it was not your fault. I would read up about the seed mixture that is being provided to be sure that I was giving them seeds high in oils. I routinely offer an additional cup of canary seed to my Gouldians cages. The greater their choices the better I think.
I hope this is of some help to you, Jeanie
