different colour 4 day old chicks

Hello,

I am hand rearing 2 gouldian finches.
1 is a day older and is a lovely pink colour.
the other I had to help out of the egg and is smaller. it is darker in colour than the first one.
should I be concerned?
they are both feeding well and are both lively.
many thanks
clare

Hi Clare, Sounds OK to me. Is there any chance that the darker chick could have the genetic mutation to cause it to be a blue back? Without knowing their parents' genes, I can't say for sure, but that would explain the darker skin color. Could also mean that the lighter skinned bird is a yellow back. No, nothing to worry about. Thanks for visiting my site. Guide book coming out soon. Jeanie
