Frustrated with breeding and rearing!!!!
hello, its been a pleasure breeding gouldians and the little advices you offer are simply marvellous. Still sometimes situations become nightmares,I have spent the last 18 years with lovely gouldians and now the situation is horrible, some people are just using this bird as a means of earning their bread and butter, since the cost of importing the birds are high, moreover the people who usually sell these seem to just overlook the quality and concentrate more on quantity! my question to you is can you offer me a sugestion how these problems can be overcome? hopefully wait for your answer.
It can be hard to find high quality Gouldians and I fear you are right about some breeders, but not all. I wrote my book to help educate people wanting to care for Gouldians. It is hard to find out what these birds need. I hope it will help a bit.
In the U.S., big cities will have bird club enthusiasts who will put on bird shows and I have found those shows would lead me to finding high quality Gouldian breeders. In the U.S., Canary shows often have benches for other finches and almost always there are some Gouldian breeders too. There is a magazine and a web site, www.justfinches.com, which focuses primarily on Australasia finches. The magazine advertises that they record what is happening in many foreign countries such as South Africa, the U.S., Europe, the U.K. and other countries. Perhaps they include India also. Our National Finch and Softbill Society,(www.nfss.org), could possibly be helpful, as well as The Foreign Bird League, (www.foreignbirdleague.com), which is based in The UK., to find bird clubs in your country.
I wish I could be of more help to you.
Thank you for your question. Jeanie
