Gouldian Finch breding - lady gouldian tossing babies out of nest

What is going wrong? My lady gouldian is tossing their babies out of their nest!

What can I do to stop this?

~*~*~*~*~*~

Try to increase their privacy. Cover the cage, top and three sides with cardboard, fabric, or artificial plant foliage, anything you have on hand so they do not have to watch for danger from all directions.

Avoid examining their nest or otherwise disturbing them as much as possible. In some cases the pairs will not stop throwing out eggs.

Set up a small cage of several Society finches, give them a nest and be prepared to save the chicks should the parents toss more out again.

One word of caution, if you set the societies up, check their nest every two weeks and remove any eggs that they may have laid.

If you don't, there's a good chance they'll be raising their own chicks when you need them to foster.

Best of Luck
Jean

cock bird too young
by: dulla

you will find that 85% of the time it will be the cock that does this. you can put the chick back in the nestbox but he will get it back out. you will find some times the cock is too young let him get a bit older and try again.
