help - my gouldian is sick

She has been very healthy until today. She is in a large cage with other finches - 2 owl finches, 1 goldfinch and a canary. She was raised with the canary and they have been companions. When I came home today she was on the bottom of the cage. Seems to be having some trouble breathing. I picked her up and put her in a cage by herself so the other birds don't stress her out. Is there anything I can do? She has her wings slightly spread and eyes closed. I know your not a bird vet, but any suggestions?

Hi Kathy,
Of all the finches, Gouldians need the most heat so cover her smaller cage and put something like a light bulb near her, anything to warm her up. That way she won't have to use up all of her energy just to stay warm and she can use that energy to heal. Can you listen real close to her cage and does she make a clicking sound as she is breathing. That would indicate air sac mites. You probably already know all this, but the best thing would be to find an avian vet. who will answer your questions on the phone.

Wish I could give you a better answer. Jeanie
