my birds wont pair get paired
by Hassan Fikree
I am from Maldives. I saw these gouldian finches in the internet and wanted to have one. As it is not easy to find a pair from Maldives, I tried hard and now I have a male and female. but I worry that the male and female do't get along very well.
My Male has finished his molt and I think he is ready to mate and he has started singing, but the female won't come closer to him. They are not getting paired, but I have never seen them having a hustle or fighting. Is there anything I can do about it?
I have been having the pair for two months now.
Can you advise on this issue.
Pls can you send the answer to my email (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Are you feeding your birds a breeding diet? Is their cage getting 14 hours of full spectrum lighting each day? Is the temperature around their cage in the high 70's or low 80's? What worked for me was to duplicate, as best I could, what their living conditions would be were they back in Australia in the spring. If the male is picking on the female, I would separate them. Some pairs don't like their selected mates. They will fight and someone will get hurt if they aren't separated. Do you have a nest box set up and stuffed for them? They aren't the best nest builders.
