Need help gouldian star gazing

I read what you said on star gazing, and I think my young male gouldian is starting to do this. He will lift his head straight up as if looking at the sky and stay that way for a little while then do it again. This behavior just started a few weeks ago and I was trying to figure out how to help him. Thank God I came across your website.

You said to give them ground nuts, cloves or ground tea leave, but which kind would be best or what kind of nuts, tea leave? Regular tea leaves like green tea leaves, black tea leaves? Also how can I add more thiamine to his diet, what would contain this?

Thank you
Ivette

Hi Ivette,

I think just regular or green tea leaves. There is thiamine in brewer's yeast, oat groats, wheat or whole grain baby cereal or any legume chopped up. Thiamine is vitamin B1 and is needed by the nervous system and muscle cells. These additives are by no means guaranteed to cure or even help if the problem is really twirling. I was never able to reverse twirling or star gazing in any of my Gouldians. The problem is a very sad one. Should there come a time when you feel that your bird is suffering and you want to end that suffering, please contact me again for information that will enable you to do that painlessly. Best Wishes, Jeanie

Tea leaves
by: Addie

I used neem leaf tea and mixed it to the drinking water.( Neem tea should only be used with birds who are not breeding as it can produce temporary, reversible spermicidal effects.)

To boost immunity mixed possible neem tea mixed into the Echinacea/goldenseal tincture.

you can get Neem leaf tea at neemtreefarms.com
Echinacea/goldenseal in glycerin available in health store. do this for 2 week and see what happen.
